InfoAccess - Is Your TNSNAMES.ORA File Correct

This document tells you how to check for the correct TNSNAMES.ORA file on your PC.

If other Oracle database servers are in use in addition to the DoIT run InfoAccess server, you already have a TNSNAMES.ORA file. The TNSNAMES.ORA file must list all the Oracle servers your computer accesses.

The TNSNAMES.ORA file once distributed by DoIT contains a list of for Oracle servers DoIT supports Oracle servers run by DoIT and does not have all the campus-supported servers listed. If other Oracle servers are being accessed, the TNSNAMES.ORA file must be updated to include those servers. Therefore, users will need to contact the Oracle server administrator for connection information.

Make sure the TNSNAMES.ORA file is correct. You can find the TNSNAMES.ORA file in C:\ORACLE\ORA92\NETWORK\ADMIN (or perform a 'Search' on your computer). Open the file with NotePad. (Other text editors may left justify this entry and your connection to the server will not work.) Go to: Edit->Find and search for InfoAccess.

If the TNSNAMES.ORA file does not contain the InfoAccess database connection information, email infoaccess@doit.wisc.edu for assistance.
