WebSurvey@UW - Survey Design Options

This document describes the Survey Design Options

As you design your survey there are additional options that you will need to set to complete the survey. You access these options by clicking on the Options icon  located to the right of the survey in your survey list. The Survey Options window breaks down into the following 8 areas:

General Information

• You can make changes to the Survey Title.
• Assign a Template that you have created or one that has been made public by another user.
• Preview any of the available templates, simply by clicking on the preview button  .
• Make modifications to the Survey Language and survey Status (Design, Open, Closed).
• Set the Start Date and End Date when responses can be submitted.
• View the Date Created, the original Launch Date and the number of current Responses.

Respondent Access Level

Set the desired security level based on a combination of single vs. multiple response, login required vs. anonymous, and updateable vs. not updateable. Detailed descriptions of each security level are given on the options page pictured below.

Survey Completion Properties

Survey completion properties determine what your survey taker will experience, when they have completed taking your survey.

Completion Action Options:

• Display message - specified by you in the “Completion Message” box on this page.
• Display results immediately.
• Direct to another URL – specified by you in the “Completion URL” box on this page.
• Close the browser

Button Options:

• Close Button
• Continue Button
• View Reports Button

Send Responses To – enter the email addresses where you want the responses emailed. Leave blank if the responses should not be emailed.

Navigation Properties

Determine how your survey takers navigate throughout the survey.

Back Button Options

• Display
• Do not display

Cancel Button Options

• Close browser
• Do not display
• Redirect to end of  survey
• Redirect to custom URL, which you will enter in the following text box.

Hidden Fields

When a user responds to a survey, you may save data stored in session, cookies, or in the querystring, and have this data associated with each individual response. The Type field is the source of the hidden data, the Key field is the key within the session, cookie, or querystring used to extract the data, and the Display Name field is how the data captured will be displayed in the reports.

Numbering Properties

These options set the page and question numbering formats.

Page Numbering Options:

• Display page number on each page.
• Display progress as a progress bar.
• Display progress in “page X of Y” format.
• Do not display page numbers.

Question Numbering Options:

• Do not display question numbers.
• Number questions within entire survey.
• Number questions within each Page.

Administrative Properties

Set report security and response options.

Report Security Options:

• High – Reports are viewable by owners only.
• Medium – Semi-Private allows all users to view the overview results and only owners to view the individual results.
• Low – Public allows all users to view all reports.

Administrator Properties

These values cannot be changed and are provided for your information only.

The “Owner” is the Group Account name and the “Admin Email” is for the Group Account administrator.
