Student Center - Setting your Campus Email Addresses

Students can no longer set a "preferred email address." The preferred address will default to their WiscMail address (e.g. bbadger@wisc.edu). Other email addresses can be added in My UW-Madison in the Student Center module.

1. Login to My UW-Madison.
2. Open the Student Center module (located in Frontpage, Financial, and Student Record tabs).
3. Locate the "Personal Information" section on the Student Center. In the "Contact Information," use the pull-down menu to select Email Addresses and click >>. Alternatively, you can click on the link that says Campus Email - View All.



4. Students will have three types of email addresses: Campus, Home, and Other.

Campus

All official university communications will be sent to this email address. It will always be set to the student's WiscMail address, and it cannot be changed or deleted. This will be the only address that shows up in the campus directory.

Home

If a student's previous "Preferred email address" was not their WiscMail address, the Home address will automatically be populated with that address. The unversity will only use the Home address if unable to reach a student at his or her WiscMail account.

Students can set the Home email address to anything they would like. It can be set to "preferred" if a student does not have a WiscMail address (e.g. an applicant). If the student acquires a WiscMail account, the WiscMail address will automatically be set to "preferred."

Other

The "Other" email address is intended for use by applicant's only. It would be used if the applicant wanted to indicate a second email address besides their Home address.

Students can set the Other email address to anything they would like. It can be set to "preferred" if a student does not have a WiscMail address (e.g. an applicant). If the student acquires a WiscMail account, the WiscMail address will automatically be set to "preferred."
