My WebSpace - Default Directory Versioning

This document explains how to set versioning for all files in a directory.

Default Versioning

The Versioning option on a directory differs from the versioning setting of a file. With files, the system allows you to track every change made to any file by saving a copy (version) of a file each time that file is saved. However, versioning on a directory merely represents the default versioning setting for all files created within that directory. There is no versioning history for a directory.

If Versioning is "Off' for a directory, each new file uploaded to that directory will be uploaded with Versioning disabled. Additionally, all new subdirectories will have a Default Versioning parameter of "Off".

This is the directory versioning page.

If Versioning is "On" for a directory, each new file uploaded to that directory will be uploaded with Versioning enabled. Additionally, all new subdirectories will have a Default Versioning parameter of "On".

To turn default versioning on or off for a directory:
The Versioning link will appear on your Directory's info screen.

  1. Navigate to the directory for which you wish to change default versioning.
  2. Click on the Manage icon for the respective directory.
  3. Click on the "Default Versioning" link in the Manage screen.
  4. Use the Versioning on/off drop-down to turn versioning on or off. If you would like this parameter changed for all existing subdirectories and files within this directory, check off the "Apply this setting to all sub-directories as well as files". Otherwise, this setting will only apply to new files and subdirectories created in the future in this directory.
  5. Click "Apply Now"
  6. Click the "Back" link to return to you directory's Manage screen.
